Be strong and Courageous

Our Mission & Vision

The mission of Second New Light is to love God, to love others, and to magnify the name of Jesus Christ. In showing love we strive to glorify God, and our Savior Jesus Christ. It is our goal to make true disciples thourghout all the world, by means of missionary activity and support, ministering the ordinances of the church, edifying believers, and doing all that is sovereignly possible and biblically permissible to magnify the name of Jesus.

The vision of Second New Light is to be a family of believers, reaching out to our community telling others about the love of Jesus. We feel it is our responsibility to care for our neighbors both physically and spiritully. We exist to glorify God and see to the welfare of our community and its people. Therefore we seek to empower those we encounter, with the knowledge of Christ that they may find redemption and begin to grow along with us as we continue to develop as disciples of Christ.

How Can I Get Involved?

Jesus told us, his disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of Second New Light Church is our mission to the world. It begins in our own community, and spreads overseas to every nation. Second New Light members are involved in a variety of ministries from things as simple as preparing the church bulletins, to preparing fellowship meals.

Sunday School

The purpose of the Sunday School is to communicate the gospel to children, and adults through the teaching process. Sunday School and small groups have a major impact on the health of the local church. A church that has a growing Sunday School also has a growing worship and membership.

Church Training Union (CTU)

The CTU seeks to develop members to minister by training them through specific areas: polity (church government), doctrine (church belief), and leadership.CTU affords every member of the church the opportunity to enhance and develop spiritual gifts designed to edify the Body of Christ.

 Outreach Ministry

We are active in missionary work and support missions in Nigeria and other countries through the Union Missionary Baptist Association and Lott Carey Foreign Missions with our money and with our prayers. We also partner will Angel Tree Project to provide Christmas gifts for children of incarcerated parents.

Laymen League

The Layman’s League consist of the adult male population of the church. The Layamen’s League is a group of spiritually guided men that are very concerned about the development of male youth into spirit-filled men. The goal of the Laymen’s League is to assist the church in cultivating our males into becoming productive citizens in their homes, church, schools, and communities.

 Music Ministry

God-honoring worship is something we strive for. Many church members are involved in our music ministry. Second New Light has four choirs in which our members participate. On 1st Sundays the Sanctuary choir sings. 2nd Sundays is the exciting FUSION Youth Choir. 3rd Sundays is the traditional Gospel Choir. And 4th Sundays the energetic Praise Choir.

Angels of Praise

The Angels of Praise Dance Ministry is designed to express the art of dance through praise and worship of our Lord Jesus Christ. The art of dance expresses the feeling and emotions of God in which His Holy Spirit flows through the very being as one dances. The purpose of our praise dance ministry is to develop ministerial dancers that will minister to others through Song and Praise.

The usher team at Second New Light fills an important role. They are involved in directing attendees to their seats, ensuring the safety of the building during services, helping visitors, answering questions, providing direction, and generally ensuring that the service can proceed problem-free. The usher team is a servant-hearted group of men , women, and youth whose ministry is integral to church life.

Nurses Aid Ministry

The Nurses Aid Ministry provides care and assistance, as needed, during our worship services. Our nurses aides are certified in CPR and Defibullator usage. They also coordinate health and wellness within our congregation.

Media & Technology

Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of Second New Light Church. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools as best as possible for kingdom purposes. During our services we offer monitor projection of upcoming events, sermon outlines and What’s the 411 FUSION news broadcast.

Children’s Church

In order to give our children the best Bible teaching possible, Second New Light holds a children’s church service in conjunction with the main service, with the exception of 2nd Sundays, FUSION Youth Sunday. This special time gives kids more opportunity for interaction and learning in a context and manner that may be better suited to their age and learning styles. Our friendly children’s church volunteers have an endless stream of creativity–ranging from video lessons, crafts, skits and a small snack.

 Culinary Arts Ministry

Fellowship is an important aspect of church life and nothing goes better with good fellowship than good food. The Culinary Arts Ministry of Second New Light, supports a variety of of church functions from light refreshments to full course meals. They are always on the lookout for great cooks within the church family, to assist with preparation and serving at church events.

Scriptural Reading Matthew 21:1-11

Christ in this passage makes his triumphal entry into Jerusalem riding a donkey’s colt. The crowd met him as he entered the city, they place cloaks and branches on the ground for him to ride upon and many waved palm branches shouting “Hosanna, Hosanna” in the highest. The people worshiped Christ as the king he truly is even riding upon a donkey. They worshiped him for what they have heard of him and the miracles they have witnessed of Christ such as raising Lazarus after three days in the grave. But how soon they forget all the miraculous signs of God’s glory which Christ had provided, for these same people now shouting Hosanna, Hosanna, will declare crucify him.

How easily we take for granted what Christ has done in our lives. We may allow our human wants to overpower our spiritual need for a closer relationship with Christ. Yet we do not hesitate to call upon him in our distress. Those in Jerusalem had the privilege of to the King of Kings being in their presence, but they allow the envious to turn them against the Master. Instead of crying release him for he is innocent they cried crucify him, only because he challenged what they believed to be true.

As we seek Christ in our lives let us not allow our perceived truths prevent us from accepting God’s spiritual guidance. God is the God of all, sitting high and looking low he knows all he knows the direction he desires us to travel. Be ever willing to listen to what God is saying through the Holy Spirit, by doing so we can be sure that we are traveling in the right direction.

Those at the trail of Jesus called for his crucifixion because they were directed by human feeling and understanding and not spiritual discernment. Christ voluntarily stepped down from a throne of royalty that he might bring redemption to a chaotic and sinful world. He set aside everything he knew and placed his life in the Heavenly Father’s hands that through him God might be glorified. If Christ can deny himself royalty for the sake of an undeserving mankind, at the very least mankind can remember his sacrifice and honor Christ by living upright and righteous lives.
